Gregor Cullen

Graphic Designer, Printmaker, Visual Artist & Educator

Cullen’s Fine Art inkjet prints evoke the visual language of the Screen Print in digital form. His visual art practice has been informed and shaped by his understanding and practice of the Graphic Arts. The hand cut, the photo stencil and layered multicoloured overprinting are reinterpreted using digital tools to create edition fine art inkjet prints.

Gregor’s screen prints often reference the hand made and mark making “painterly” textures and decayed surfaces that bridge connections between visual art and visual communication design.

Cullen’s Poster Art embraces the power of colour, typographic voice and distinctive codified visual language to communicate message and curiosity. His poster art lives on beyond their intended purpose and are sort after by collector’s of Australian Poster Art.

Cullen’s Fine Art prints play with the concept of formal slippage, stripped back forms that have origins in landscape, identity and local lore. Silhouette and shadow, accidental mark making, chance juxtaposition and compositional play emerge as reimagined abstract landscapes, provoking curiosity, interpretation, meaning and memory.
